Hello!

My name is Eleanor and I am intending to apply for a Graduate Diploma in Book and Paper Conservation at West Dean. To this end, I have compiled a selection of the various crafts I have attempted and become proficient in over the years as evidence of manual dexterity, problem solving skills, and my ability to focus in a workshop environment.

I have always enjoyed working with my hands and this has translated well into craft practices such as knitting, crochet, and quilting.

However, my interest primarily lies with books; as a library cataloguer, I work with books everyday and I love reading and learning about the history of book construction and printing. I have attended a variety of bookbinding courses and workshops and I continue to practise these skills in my workspace at home.

Spending time with the Conservation Department in the library has encouraged me to attempt some book repairs myself. The department has been incredibly encouraging and I have certainly benefited from their advice and guidance.
